Designed by California startup Monohm the Runcible is probably the most original smartphone at Mobile World Congress 2015. Indeed, it fully round model has a circular screen of 7.8 cm in diameter. To provide a suitable interface, the company has chosen Firefox OS whose display is mainly based on HTML 5 which facilitates the management round screens. Similarly, developers can draw in HTML 5 resources to adapt their sites or applications in this circular screen.
For the rest, it’s a pretty standard smartphone with a processor with eight cores ARM Cortex-A53, 4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a Micro-USB connector for charging and a headphone jack. However, it is devoid of speaker and microphone, which could be problematic. By the release of the product, the manufacturer still has time to review its copy, but for now, you must use a headset or a Bluetooth headset. Firefox OS is also expected to meet the basic functions of a smartphone like browsing the web, sending email and SMS, etc., but the catalog of applications will necessarily limit by the system ‘still unknown exploitation.
Finally, at the back, perfectly in the center of the hull, we find the camera, the sensor size is not specified, but Monohm speaks of a sensor equivalent to that of the iPhone 5. It is otherwise devoid of flash. And the rear seat can be changed easily.
The company plans to fully complete the Runcible for the month of September with a launch scheduled for the end of the year. Regarding the price, George Arriola, the founder of the company, was content to say it will be cheaper than an iPhone 6, but it should be expected at a relatively high price for this smartphone whose production will necessarily be limited. The company’s philosophy is also the opposite of the standard smartphone since the founder; the smartphone has taken up too much space in the relationship between the people and the strip Runcible wants to refocus people on relationships real. By returning the Runcible on the screen will phone in silent mode without any notification.
