Tiko 3D presents a 3D printer that seduces with its aesthetics, originality and competitive price.
Unveiled at the SXSW (South by Southwest) 2015 in Austin, Texas, 3D FFF printer (for “production by molten filament”) of the Canadian Tiko 3D startup should be placed under the € 200, representing a price rarely found in this area. To achieve this, Tiko 3D seems to have optimized the use of mechanical parts by opting for a mechanism “delta” which is responsible for moving the print head on the three axes by providing mobile trolley. The other strategy Tiko 3D to get to this cheaply is the choice for mass production.
In terms of performance, Matt Gajkowski CEO Tiko 3D promises that the Tiko will be able to produce objects of a similar quality to other printers FDM market. As for speed, we only know that the delta type printers are typically among the slowest. If these signs are vague, which is no doubt however, is that its simplicity and compactness allow him to reside wherever they wish.
The other good news is the lack of restriction on consumable priority, since the Tiko is compatible with standard PLA filament of 1.75 mm. An original touch is provided by the tray: Due to its flexibility, it is expected to more easily extract the printed object without additional hardware. To reach it, simply lift the 3D printer, which then separates from the latter.
Software side, Tiko is controlled directly through online software accessible from any machine with a web browser (smartphone, tablet, computer, etc.). Any other connector that power is present on the machine; all communication will thus be wireless.
On print volume finally, and although there either no data is specified, compactness of the machine requires, it is therefore reduced. This should be the main limit of the printer.
The availability of Tiko is announced in the fall of 2015. A crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter will open soon.
