MSI launches an interesting alternative to Intel NUC with a “Cubi” modular, more compact, and potentially more economical.
MSI launches in its turn in the dance of the miniature computer, to come to cast on the ground of Intel NUC. The Taiwanese manufacturer benefits from CeBIT 2015 to present the Cubi, for both individuals and professionals.
Facing the Intel NUC and existing alternatives, the MSI Cubi this interest to begin to offer a modular design: the hood, which seals the housing from below, is removable. And one can choose a cover may or may not accommodate a storage medium in 2.5 inches, such as a high-capacity hard drive in addition to an mSATA SSD.
The beveled design of this hood further refines the silhouette of the machine, which appears thinner than a similar machine at location 2.5 inches. He claims the title of the smallest computer in the category.
MSI Cubi finally has the distinction of being offered with Broadwell Core i3, as the last Intel NUC since its launch, with a Core i5, as it recently, but also with a Pentium or a Celeron. So it will be an economic alternative, pending Intel does its range.
This is what distinguishes the MSI Cubi last Intel NUC, but it is not anything on the market for miniature computers on which such details make the difference. It can specifically accommodate a Celeron 3205U (two threads to 1.5 GHz and Intel HD Graphics), a Pentium 3805U (ditto but clocked at 1.9 GHz), Core i3-5005U (four threads at 2 GHz and HD 5500) or a Core i5-5200U (ditto but clocked from 2.2 to 2.7 GHz).
It comes with 4 GB of RAM DDR3L 1600 MHz memory, upgradeable to 8 GB. This is however a barebone, you can complete an mSATA SSD and / or SSD or SATA hard drive format 2 5 inches. The connector consists of four USB 3.0 ports (two on the front), a Gigabit Ethernet port, audio input / output 3.5 mm at the front, and mini DisplayPort and HDMI outputs (versions unspecified). The 802.11ac Wi-Fi card and Bluetooth 4.0 is optional.
