Breitling B55 Connected - watch more connected and intelligent

Breitling B55 Connected - watch more connected and intelligent

The luxury watch brand Breitling presents the B55 Connected. This watch is connected is a response to the movement of smartwatches who knows, with the launch of the Apple Watch climax. Is the answer though adapted?

Last September, when Tim Cook introduced his “one more thing” Apple Watch, the world of luxury watches had fun smartwatches the phenomenon by saying that consumers who like watches crack rarely for objects design starved character.

If the Gear S and G Watch indeed more intrinsic qualities of elegant curves, the latest models presented at the Mobile Word Congress (Huawei Watch and G Watch Urbane to quote a few), not to mention the accessory connected Cupertino raises many passions since its introduction, clearly intended for watch lovers. It does not, of course was enough for some dare associate with the phenomenon.

If Swatch was one of the first to announce the development of a smartwatch to take a bite of the apple, is presenting its connected Breitling watch, B55 Connected. The design, both in the dial in the chassis, incorporates the features of the Swiss brand. Added to small secondary LCD screens and a pictogram indicating some connectivity. Its nature is also no doubt that this is the Bluetooth.

Technically, few elements were unveiled by Breitling. We know that the show is based on a more accurate quartz Calibre, an accelerometer for some accessibility features, a rechargeable battery via a home connector on the left side, a titanium case and the aforementioned Bluetooth connection. Other sensors should also be part of, but it is not specified. Also add to that two buttons around the crown, which serves both to activate the backlight is select certain functions. The bracelet is made of rubber. It’s almost disappointing…

The Buetooth connection obviously used to connect to the B55 smartphone application. The latter is used both to synchronize certain information with the watch (clock, stopwatch, time zone, night mode, etc.) to ensure the connection with the show and get the charge level of the battery. No notifications. No additional applications. No fun little games. Breitling does not specify which OS are compatible (and even less versions), but the iPhone 6 is used for all demonstrations. Which certify at least one.

In the presentation of its product, Breitling strives to maintain a position of its own. The product is intended for fans of shows, but mainly to aerospace customers (wholesale drivers). It is the historical target of the Swiss brand. So it makes sense. Then B55 Connected is not intended to be the extension or smartphone slave is just the opposite. Breitling presents its accessories as the only master on board, the mobile ultimately serving only to facilitate access to additional services.

No price announced, but it should be at the brand level (that is to say, not very accessible). No availability date. But a confession: the connected watches could ultimately have an impact on traditional watchmaking.
