HP launches wireless docking station WiGig for PC convertible

HP launches wireless docking station WiGig for PC convertible

HP presents at MWC 2015 wireless dock for convertible computer operator standard WiGig Docking.

The WiGig is not stillborn, it even comes back at Mobile World Congress in 2015 through the new platform WiGig Docking as Intel had announced last summer. This platform leverages the high bandwidth of the high-frequency variant of Wi-Fi to enable the design of wireless docking stations.

HP is one of the first on the go with the “Advanced Wireless Docking Station”, which he exhibited for the first time at MWC 2015. This docking station, which is available from the end of February, completes professional tablets that the brand has announced the end of January. The WiGig Docking platform actually works with the new solution without Intel Maple Peak wire, which accompanies the new Broadwell chips.

Specifically, a user with this docking station and a convertible compatible PC can be reached by meeting with him and then automatically use its external monitor, its keyboard and mouse when he returns to his post: The tablet connects wirelessly to the dock as soon as it is in range. Only connect the power supply, if any, wireless charging fault.

HP Advanced Wireless Docking Station comes anyway in the form of a small cube, the back of which we find the usual array of connectivity of a laptop dock. There are two DisplayPort 1.2 outputs, VGA output, a Gigabit Ethernet port and three USB 3.0 ports. A fourth USB 3.0 port, high intensity it (for charging a tablet, for example), as well as analog inputs / audio outputs, complete the package on a side face.

Frequency of 60 GHz WiGig 802.11ad does not very far, 1.2m maximum, but offers in return a bandwidth of up to 7 Gb / s, shared input / outputs above. Two USB 3.0 ports so cannot be fully exploited simultaneously (5 GB / s each), but it’s enough for most uses in everyday life. The particular display is of no compression artifacts.

HP Advanced Wireless Docking Station is available now in the United States, the price of 240 dollars.
