Microsoft has finally confirmed that Windows 10 released this summer, but not only. He also took the opportunity to unveil Windows Hello, a new authentication method; in addition to that he worked with Lenovo and Xiaomi around the version for smartphones.
It was in October that Microsoft first introduced his famous OS universal, aka Windows 10. A presentation more focused on PCs but completed in January with a first glimpse of the version for smartphones. Remained to know when all this was available. The launch has in fact never really been addressed, if not in the financial aspect, since we already know that the update will be available free of charge to users of Windows 7, 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 (for compatible smartphones). No release date however. Now we have at least a fork.
Available this summer in 190 countries
It was during the WindHEC (Windows Hardware Engineering Conference) that Microsoft held to bring, through the Windows blog, some details about the release of its new OS. The launch is planned for the summer in 190 countries with support for 111 different languages. It’s always very vague and we already doubted but official confirmation is always better than guessing. Especially when it is accompanied by additional information.
More security with Windows Hello
The first concerns a new authentication system called Windows Hello and based on biometrics, fingerprint iris. The goal is obviously to strengthen security, data is personal, but also to simplify the procedure as there is no need to remember a password or typing. It wills obviously diposer compatible devices to enjoy either equipped with the necessary sensors.
The fingerprint readers are already well established in PCs but no Windows Phone proposes. For face recognition or iris, Windows Hello is based on a much less widespread technology. This is not a camera but any type. An infrared camera in order to operate in all light conditions.
In other words, it was not until the arrival of new devices to take full advantage of Windows Hello.
Lenovo and Xiaomi partners Windows 10 side smartphones
And, new devices, we obviously can expect two newcomers to the list of Microsoft partners. Finally, again, not so much for the former. This is Lenovo, already associated with the American in the IT sector. However, it is also about this time smartphones. The former are even expected in China in mid-2015.
Then comes Xiaomi, including Mi 4 is compatible with the Technical Preview from Windows 10. Recall that the manufacturer does not have a Windows Phone in its catalog. The announcement is interesting. Even if it concerns a known smartphone and a non-final version of the OS, we obviously hope that the collaboration does not stop there.
We already had good reason to rejoice in the arrival of Windows 10. These new only confirm our interest in the platform and we look forward to the summer comes to see what other surprises was still able to book us Microsoft.
