FeelReal - virtual reality mask for total immersion

FeelReal - virtual reality mask for total immersion

FeelReal Virtual reality is about to invade us with the release of the helmets of leading brands like Samsung or Facebook (Oculus), yet some start-ups already go far in the immersion considering either simple helmets, but masks.

The Start Up FeelReal is determined to take advantage of the enthusiasm generated by the various virtual reality helmets have not presented major brands like Sony, Samsung or Oculus … And rather than to compete with the heavyweights in the making, the firm placing on an accessory adding a little more immersion in the user.

Mask FeelReal Virtual reality headsets work more or less on the same principle: one or screens offer 3D rendered to the user by cutting the rest of the world. Various sensors allow it to combine its head movements with a camera movement transcribed in the virtual world … Some add headphones to place a little more user in a bubble, but FeelReal wants to go even further.

The concept of the company in the form of a mask that will awaken the other senses of the user. The module will be positioned in a virtual reality helmet, the nose and mouth.

There is a fragrance device, a hot air generator to simulate the wind, a diffuser mist to simulate rain, and a microphone that will be positioned in front of the mouth of the user.

For now, we do not know much about the technology that will animate the whole, nor the odor diffuser, a system attractive appearance, but which in practice means systematically disappointing today.

The FeelReal mask is already available for pre-order at a price of 249.99 dollars with four flavors included (7 have already been announced). The delivery of the development kit however is not expected before next summer, which will push the first deliveries to customers at the end of the year at least…
