The first smartphone from the Vaio brand will be presented in March

The first smartphone from the Vaio brand will be presented in March

A first smartphone from the Vaio brand will be announced on 12 March. The expected configuration would be that of an entry-level model.

Last year, Sony sold the Vaio brand in Japan Industrial Partners consortium. It was then a branch dedicated to laptops. However, in a year, the buyer, who created an eponymous dedicated company, has not been content to computers. He unveiled a convertible tablet running Windows 8 this fall. And it was obviously a step towards mobile telephony. Through a partnership announced the very end of last year with Japan Communication, the Vaio brand will launch an entry-smartphone on 12 March.

 An input configuration range

The mobile has already been seen in the databases of the Japanese virtual operator under the serial number JCI VA-A0J. The configuration of this smartphone, unveiled by Blog of Mobile, should be pretty classic. The screen should be 5 inches and deliver 720p definition. The chipset should be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 (quad-core Cortex-A53 1.2GHz GPU Adreno 306). And to take advantage of its 64-bit compatibility, the installed version of Android should Lollipop.

The forecast data sheet also includes 2 GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, a single SIM card port, a photo sensor 13 megapixels, a 5-megapixel webcam and certainly compatibility with 4G networks, even if it is not specified. The smartphone should also be manufactured by Quanta Computer, leading Taiwanese subcontractors. All the official details, as well as its price and design, will be known in two weeks. However, we expect to see a product with lines inspired by the high-end computing.

 Pragmatic product

This is obviously a pragmatic (and logical) that the Vaio society is entering the smartphone market, face a whole new Xperia E4G is technically it (on paper at least) below. The high-end PC segment continues to function properly, but there is really no growth expected. While the entry-level smartphones and feature phones currently enjoying a revival of interest among Japanese consumers looking to lower the entry ticket to mobile services. This pragmatism is echoed in the choice of the operator with which Vaio launches mobility: Japan Communications, which is known to be one of the first (if not the first) MVNO in the world.
