Samsung announces first memory module 5.1 eMMC Ultra-fast

Samsung announces first memory module 5.1 eMMC Ultra-fast

Having formalized it a few days ago, the launch of mass production of its latest processor Exynos 7 Octa engraved in 14 nanometers, Samsung announced the first memory modules eMMC 5.1 for smartphones and tablets but also other types of mobile devices such as handhelds.

According to Samsung, the 64 GB version of the new 5.1 eMMC memory modules will be able to offer impressive performance and reach peaks of 250 MB per second sequential read and 125 MB per second sequential write. Read performance and random write would, in turn, from 11 000 to 13 000 IOPS.

As stated in the press release, they will be seven to twenty-six times faster than external SD card which displays approximately 1,500 IOPS read performance and 500 IOPS write. A comparison that might not be as it happens by chance whispers for weeks that the Galaxy S6 would not propose SD slot.

Does this mean that the new memory chips would be those that would be found within the next flagship of the Korean? If that were the case, then it would mean that this announcement comes just in time. Nevertheless, it seems a little premature given that Samsung also said he hope so these chips become popular “in smartphones and tablets in the coming years.”

Parallel to their incredible speed, the new 5.1 eMMC memory chips will be the first to support multitasking with the ability to manage a command queue without having to wait for the previous task is completed. The orders are then processed in the most efficient order.

Samsung cites as an example reading and Ultra HD video streaming. Knowing that now, most high-end can film in 4K, it seems essential. Finally, we also learn that the new modules are ultra-secure and only selected users will be able to access protected storage areas.
