MediaTek MT6795 is preparing the launch of an octo-core 64-bit high-end supposed to compete with Qualcomm Snapdragon 810. Is it really worth? First answer with Geekbench.
During the summer of 2014, MediaTek officially presented its first three chipsets compatible 64-bit: the MT6732, MT6752 and MT6795. While the first two are now in smartphones sold (eg Vitamin A for the first and Acer Liquid Jade S for the second), the MT6795 is still awaited. And highly anticipated because it is representative of the offer upscale MediaTek and a potential competitor for the Snapdragon 810, like the nVidia Tegra X1 and Exynos 7420 (that of the Galaxy S6 logically) of Samsung.
As the MT6795 is very rare, difficult to compare with the current reference (which should indeed equip a number of high-end smartphones passable despite some media coverage in recent weeks). But equipped development platform Chinese chipset and Android Lollipop 64-bit has been noticed in the Geekbench database. The opportunity therefore to see what is going on, comparing with the results obtained by the LG G Flex2.
Truly comparable results
The first observation in single-core Snapdragon 810 did better: 1292 points at his best, contre1010 points. This is theoretically no wonder. Qualcomm component is clocked faster (2.9 GHz) as that of MediaTek (2.2 GHz). However, we note that the frequency of Snapdragon 810 is clearly lower: 1.55 GHz. We also note that among the thousands of tests on the G Flex2 on Geekbench, a majority is below the 1000 points. The behavior of the processor has to change depending on the application.
In multi-core, Qualcomm’s chipset generally exceeds 4500 and is approaching 4,600 point when it is on a G Flex2. The MT6795 meanwhile than “just” the 5400 points. This is an excellent score. The MT6795 far beyond the Snapdragon 810. Maybe the difference is that frequency which plays fully. If you go on Geekbench and realize a research on the MSM8994 (Snapdragon 810 reference), you will also come across development platforms with even better scores (but never higher than 5000 points). Qualcomm component thus potentially untapped resources. There remains the question of the emission of heat…
Who will be the first to launch officially with the MT6795?
No smartphone is officially equipped with the MT6795 (mobile HTC was spotted there 10 days), octo-core 64-bit configuration comparable to the Snapdragon 810 (quad-core Cortex-A53, quad-core Cortex-A57 and GPU PowerVR G6200). And we obviously ask the question about the identity of a possible manufacturer able to choose the component for its flagship. Meizu, Lenovo, Alcatel OneTouch or Zopo? In short, Chinese brands. And international manufacturers? That is already more complicated, while the product seems pretty good…
