Neptune has introduced Duo, a set composed of two devices. The first is a smartwatch. The second is similar to a smartphone. They obviously work together but, surprise, the usual course of things is reversed. This is the second depends here first. Explanations.
The main problem with smartwatches is that they are based on a companion smartphone to operate, but some manufacturers are trying to offer solutions. Samsung has launched fully autonomous shows: the Gear S. Neptune, already at the origin of the Pine, even goes a step further with the Duo. As the name suggests, it is not one but two devices: a watch and a phone. And here the roles are reversed.
An autonomous watch…
The first was called Hub and works completely independently with equipment worthy of an entry-level smartphone. This includes a 2.4 “, a quad-core processor, 4G multimode-compatible modem, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, all led by Android Lollipop. The OS is obviously optimized for the small size of the screen. The video presentation shows particular it is possible to write to hand up to enter text instead of using a keyboard.
… And a phone without intelligence
Obviously, this will not prevent the user from feeling cramped at times and this is the second device, called Pocket and comes into play. Rather than remove the SIM card of the watch to replace it in the smartphone as it should do so with the Samsung Gear S (unless you have two SIM cards, of course), it suffices here to get the Pocket pocket find a comfortable 5 “display for a HD resolution. It is also equipped with two cameras 8 and 2 megapixels and a battery of 2800 mAh. No chipset or SIM location however.
It is therefore Hub running applications while Pocket is relegated to mere display part. Well, not quite. You may have noticed that it has a rather generous battery for unintelligent device. It will also serve to recharge the watch as necessary, which should allow to bypass another problem smartwatches: autonomy. For all, Neptune announced a capacity of 3800 mAh and “a few days of autonomy in normal use on a single charge.”
Launched in late 2015
The concept of Neptune Duo is interesting. It will nevertheless pay slightly more for a classic watch. The lot will be sold $ 798, or about € 700. Reservations nevertheless are entitled to more or less interesting discounts depending on the amount of the first deposit. Up to $ 300 for a deposit of $ 498, this then represents the full payment.
