Intel CEO, Brian Krzanich, has confirmed that the new Intel Core M with architecture Skylake will arrive in the second half of the year. Enable winning tablet Windows thin models with mobile platforms
Brian Krzanich Intel has confirmed that the new Intel Core M microarchitecture-based Skylake will arrive in the second half of the year. The company’s goal is to offer partners the opportunity to implement on tablet and ultrabook form factor with thicknesses even lower and help extend the operating range of the products on the market.
Intel launched the first Core M based on 14nm Broadwell last September, allowing third-party manufacturers to showcase their proposals with new technology at CES 2015 in Las Vegas. The first products came on the market in recent weeks with renewed form factor significantly compared to the past, and with a dissipation system completely without fans or active parts.
The Core M Skylake allow extremes even more the concept of tablet Windows, making it more similar to products that have mobile platform, such as iOS or Android. Specifically, Krzanich has argued that it can produce devices that can compete with 6.1mm of iPad Air 2 with new technologies, where today the tablet Core M thinner stops to 7,2mm.
But Skylake not just mean thickness and low power consumption, but also a substantial performance boost both on computational and graphical. The new processors should be able to reach the performance of Haswell ULV traditionally used in previous generations of tablet and ultrabook, enterprise not entirely successful at current Core M Broadwell.
New technologies are not naturally compatible only with Windows: Windows 10 will naturally be supported, but also Google Chrome OS and Android. Among the most interesting innovations are native support for Intel RealSense 3D second generation, allowing us to use the camera to recognize gestures and the face of the user.
