Sony Xperia E4g new basic phone with 4G connectivity

Aware that a mobile 3G to 140 euros is hardly defensible in mature markets, Sony declines its Xperia E4 an LTE version with a new chipset. For the rest, the specification sheet remains almost the same.

That may be a sign of a strategic shift at Sony: the adaptability of its offer. The Xperia E4, entry level smartphone just announced, will be available in two versions: one wills simply dual SIM and a second, dual SIM, too, but also compatible 4G.

A new chipset…

What should we expect from the Xperia E4g? First LTE connectivity provided by a Category 4 clearly more powerful chipset than the original Xperia E4: the MT6582 (quad-core Cortex-A7 1.3 GHz along with a Mali 400 GPU MP2 500MHz), the smartphone goes MT6732 (quad-core Cortex-A53 1.5GHz GPU Mali T760 MP2 500MHz).

Compatible 64-bit, this chipset is faster and has a newer GPU two generations. This should have an impact on the behavior of mobile every day, which is a second change.

… But also a new screen

Little surprise, it’s not the only change to wait Xperia E4g. Sony also wants to slightly decrease the size of the IPS panel, which goes from 5 to 4.7 inches. The definition remains the same, qHD (960 x 540), for a resolution that increases slightly, from 220 to 234 pixels per inch. What should be significant to browse the web (for the video, it does not change much).

Obviously, the drop in screen size affects the size of the unit loses 4 mm in height and 3.6 mm in width. He wins by contrast 0.3 mm in height. He also loses 9 grams on the scale.

Less than 150 euros

The rest of the data sheet is the same: 1 GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, 2300mAh battery, 5 megapixel sensor, 2 megapixel webcam, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.1, microSD slot, GPS, NFC (confirmed presence for of France), dual SIM, Android 4.4.4 KitKat wrapper with Xperia UI at launch. The smartphone will be offered at 149 euros (MSRP), excluding grants. It will be available in the month of April 2015.
