LG unveils new Quad HD display

LG unveils new Quad HD display

LG Display, the division dedicated to LCD screens the Korean manufacturer, officially presents a new display. It measures 5.5 inches and offers a definition Quad HD. It does remind you of anything? The course G3. And it is no coincidence, since this display will equip the next flagship.

Next April 28, LG will introduce the G4, replacing a very good G3. He had the distinction of being the first on the shelves of French shops to offer a definition of Quad HD screen, or 1440 x 2560 pixels. Which corresponds to a resolution of 538 pixels per inch. A beautiful screen with a grain so fine that the displayed image becomes clearer, even if it is impossible to distinguish the pixels with the naked eye. This year, with the G4, LG is expected to continue in this direction. Is expected a 5.5 inches QHD display in the next flagship of the brand. And as everyone knows, so make a formal presentation

LG Display, the division dedicated to LCD screens in the group, this week introduced its new 5.5-inch QHD display for the G4 (even if it is not explicitly named). Even if the resolution is strictly the same as the G3 screen, this new display differs from the previous three points.

First, it displays more colors, reaching 120% of the sRGB color space, the standard created by HP and Microsoft that defines the set of computer monitors, printers, and Internet sites. According to LG, the conventional LCD monitors (the G3, for example?) Reach 100%. According to Samsung, the AMOLED also manages to offer 20% of sRGB color more. The comparison is inevitable…

Second point differentiating the G4 screen adopts the technology Advanced In-Cell Touch. The latter is the integration of the touch surface in the LCD layer. You will find in every particular purpose mobile. It offers several advantages. First, it removes a layer of the screen, making it thinner. Then a layer of less offers better brightness and better contrast (50%). Better yet, for the same brightness, you need less energy (-30%). Finally, since the display is thinner, it is more fluid in response time.

Last difference, LG Display has included an extra layer between the screen and liquid crystal (because it is always a LCD screen …). This is used to realign the crystals to reduce waste light and increase contrast ratio. The technology used for this UV light.

This screen should be far better than the G3 was already a fine example of engineering. However, if the spring 2014 LG boasted of being one of the first to propose a qHD smartphone, it has since been overtaken, including his compatriot Samsung which offers Super AMOLED QHD screens even smaller display (5.1 inches in the Galaxy S6). This will require greater efforts from LG to continue to seduce. This new Quad HD display will certainly participate. Our impressions at the end of the month.
