Galaxy S6: Two different photo sensors according to models

Galaxy S6: Two different photo sensors according to models

Officially, the Galaxy S6 equips a photo sensor 16 Megapixels of f / 1.9 with optical stabilization OIS. While most of the tested models are fitted with a Sony IMX240 sensor, other models have an embedded sensor based on house ISOCELL technology.

As evidenced by the first user feedback on XDA, all Galaxy S6 does not equip the same photo sensor. The difference was noted in the EXIF data of images captured with the camera displaying or the statement “LL” for Samsung ISOCELL photo sensor or “LS” for the Sony IMX240. The same information also appears in the hidden menu of ISP VER CHECK accessed via the phone dialer entering the code * # 34971539 #.

Both sensors respectively having proven the Galaxy S5 and Note 4 and proving both excellent, it is not a problem in itself, except that the consumer is not able to know what camera sensor before it will have to buy the device. It is especially disturbing that for once, the models are unified in terms of processor, since the device comes only version Exynos 7420, the Snapdragon 810 having been sidelined the last high-end Samsung.

We imagine that this course is primarily for the supply issues. It is also not uncommon for manufacturers juggle several different suppliers. In addition, the proposed improvements on each of the two sensors are the same and the users do not report any loss of quality to one side or the other. Finally, note that for now, this difference was noticed only on the Galaxy S6 and not on the Galaxy S6 Edge.
