The Wilko Getaway wiko the French manufacturer has brought again a new smartphone on the market. As is almost always the price is one of the main arguments for the smartphone, but that’s with this unit almost a little side thing. For our test shows that the Wilko smartphone is more than just low and not a shadow of Wilko Highway.
If you believe the information provided by analysts, the market for smartphones, the upper class is saturated slowly but surely and the growth of the market is shifting more and more to the budget and mid-class. If you look at the latest figures from by far the leading manufacturers Samsung, then is certainly truth in these words. However, Samsung is there exposed to a much stronger and broader competition and one of these competitors is Wilko from France. Relatively new is the Wilko Getaway to have you with us and trying to prove them against the middle-class King Motorola Moto G. And it succeeds in Wilko smartphone to a certain extent even.
Specifications
Accessories
The packaging of Wilko Getaway is on its way already, the first eye-catcher on this smartphone. Because these are not a filthy cardboard box with the printed device, but a Kunstsoff box with a transparent lid and viewing window on the new acquisition. After unpacking the smartphones, the standard accessories is revealed how you can find it at almost any smartphone: USB data cable, USB power adapter, a convenient wired headset, a printed manual and a tiny jab to open the SIM slot. However, Wilko is with something else and that is anything but common. Or is anyone ever been surprised with two nano-SIM adapters? Eben: That’s a real rarity and should be highlighted really positive.
Processing
The good impression which the Wilko Getaway has made in terms of accessories is also reflected in the actual smartphone. So the unit knows by a simple but please again to be recognized design that works really appealing. Edged noble Call it, especially since the frame of cool aluminum provides a real premium feel. However, this already the first detail what close to a cheaper device can be: The gaps between the aluminum frame and glass panel on the front are a little get very big and not very evenly.
Even the back of Wilko Getaway is unexpectedly high, because it is imitation leather made of plastic. Started it was known at that time Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and in his time was considered by many to be a big step for the South Korean manufacturer that clearly appreciating the general feel. Now Wilko uses a similar strategy and thus in our eyes also success: The Getaway feels really good in the hand, but does not come close to the quality of Samsung, albeit just barely. Just remove the back can not be, for example, to change the battery when needed.
The front is clearly dominated by the 5-inch HD display, which only three sensor buttons (Menu, Home and Back) below and the sensors (brightness, proximity), speakers, a very striking Wilko logo and the front camera above supplemented will. The optical element of style for the front is the aluminum strip below the sensor buttons; the Wilko missed the smartphone a very unique touch. This runs the way on some of the better and new models of Wilko through what really knows how to please and witnessed a degree of independence. On the back is easily the top left only the 13 megapixel camera positioned with the LED flash, the combined silver Wilko logo and below the speaker. On the face of Wilko Getaway audio jack for wired headset is housed, while as usual on the bottom of the frame the MicroUSB jack sits and microphone to call.
The right side of the case houses the second SIM slot for a MicroSIM, which can be opened with the included Piekser. Directly below the hardware buttons are placed in the form of a volume rocker and the power button. These have an excellent tactile feedback and are also to feel very good. However, they are sitting pretty shaky in the housing, leaving a less good impression. Overall, Wilko moved here but at the highest level and in the 200-euro price range.
Really take criticism must Wilko but at the sensor buttons. For one, they react not always reliable, somewhat delayed and the brightness can be much to be desired.
Display
The Wilko Getaway comes with a 5-inch display for the customer, which has become a standard size. The HD resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels is standard for the middle class and actually enough for sober reflection, more than made for everyday life. Since it is an IPS display, the viewing angle correspondingly large, but not free of blemishes. As occurs in our test device from the bottom right considered a very strong yellow cast, while it goes down more into the cold bluish from the left. Even if it is “only” a 200-euro smartphone is really acceptable is not just that. But otherwise the representation is completely relates ok what colors, contrast and brightness. However, like most other smartphones provides sunlight is a real challenge, which the Wilko Getaway is not grown.
CPU & GPU
Wiko Getaway testLike most other smartphones cheaper midsize class Wilko for his getaway on a processor from MediaTek. To be precise on a 1.3 GHz MediaTek MT6582 fleets with four cores. That’s enough for an AnTuTu value of 17,530 points, so it is rather sorted in the lower middle of the middle class. This suggests that the performance is in spite of 1GB RAM rather be poor. If you work not necessarily more common with complex apps, then the Wilko Getaway may well surprise you with a good performance. Even in the browser less stuttering are compared to similar devices to feel as thought. However, this has less to do with a better fit, or the bare surface for more with Android 4.4 KitKat.
Less suitable for current games but the Mali-400 MP from ARM, this is in the MT6582. For smaller and less graphically demanding games it is quite suitable, but one should not expect more from it also. On the other hand, smartphones are the Wilko Getaway less intended as a replacement console.
Accumulator
As mentioned in section processing, the battery in Wilko smartphone is permanently installed. With 2000 mAh of battery is not overly large, but not excessively small. A good work with some use is definitely there and in standby MediaTek chips are anyway very persistent. In comparison with the similar competition, the Wilko Getaway can claim pretty well, although at maximum brightness the ScreenOn-time could be a bit better.
Good solution is the way the charging animation when your phone is off: Instead of just a slow filling of the battery charge status is also displayed as a percentage. While not necessarily outstanding but still worth mentioning.
Connectivity
In technical terms, the Wilko Getaway in terms of wireless connections almost everything you could want in a smartphone WLAN standard 802.11n, Bluetooth 4.0 in the specification, GPS and mobile internet it comes with HSPA and up to 42 Mbit / second. NFC and LTE but you have to give, because LTE does not support the MT6582 and an NFC chip Wilko has been saved in favor of the price
Conversations are more than just pretty passable, even really good. While the caller is sometimes a bit dull, but overall very good to understand what is likely to be due to the relatively high volume in itself. That goes for both sides and not just the call ends.
Multimedia
Something unusual for the 200-Euro-class is the camera of Wilko Getaway: 13 megapixel resolutions can expect little good for this price. At least partly this premonition is not met and the for the better. For correct lighting conditions, then the 13 megapixel resolution sensor makes unexpectedly good photos. Then, image sharpness, colors and also the details of the photos with better smartphones can match, if not always. Especially in darker areas it will come faster times to some picture noise.
Negative falls on the long shutter lag that makes it felt in the HDR mode: Several seconds pass after the Focus and Shoot recording. Certainly, the HDR mode requires a lot of computing power, but other smartphones finally get it out faster. Anyway, the HDR mode is hard to use so if one wants to photograph moving objects with the Wilko Getaway. In normal mode the problem does however not on.
The full resolution of 13 megapixels is actually only in the aspect ratio of 4: 3 available. Will you photos in widescreen format with 16: 9 one is limited to maximum 6 megapixels. A character that is not really understandable, since other smartphones offer at least 8 megapixels in widescreen format. Whether some shooting modes, effects, and options such as exposure, electronic image stabilization and so on compensation for each are to decide by itself. However, noteworthy is the self-timer
Video adopts the Wilko Getaway with 1,920 x 1,088 pixels on, but the image quality may be less enthusiastic about. This is less on tearing – image artifacts that occur at faster panning – because left to the Focus itself, the desire to clear for FullHD playback on respective devices can. After all, the noise keeps pleasing very limited, although bright areas quickly lead to over-exposure and hence caused by the software-automatic darker representation.
The sound quality of the speaker is surprisingly good for the price range of 200 euros, even if they logically do not extend far on a HTC One-family. Nevertheless, it is even better than some top-class smartphone, because the volume is very high and comparatively little rattles.
Unusual for the price class, the built-in 16 GB of internal memory, of which comparatively high almost 12.8 GB free disposal are the way are. Normal tends to 8GB of internal memory when it comes up and then without MicroSD slot. But exactly this has the Wilko Getaway and can withstand officially 32 GB. We can confirm, however: It also works a 64 GB MicroSD without problems and both read and write. The MicroSD is the way into the SIM carriage on the left side in, which, however, the Dual SIM capability is abandoned.
Software
One of the highlights of Wilko Getaway is the software that shines less by their own apps or adjustments to the surface, because. Due to a current Android more specifically, even a nearly tau fresh operating system is installed with Android 4.4.2 KitKat, which makes mainly in the performance of everyday applications noticeable: Wilko adheres strictly to the specifications of Android. Only minor features such as audio-profiles or several gestures of smartphones think again as well as a useful SIM management. Additional apps to the prescribed Google Apps can be found up to a file manager and a notes app for no again, what in particular should appeal to purists
This respect can be rather less to say about the software, except that the Wilko Getaway reacts very quickly usually. The Task Manager Android is incidentally called via a long press of the menu button and a long press of the Home button calls as usual on Google Now. The Back button has only a single-occupancy and that’s just the “Back”. The Home screen is the way the open source version of Google Now launcher, but without its own homescreen page for Google Now itself.
Conclusion
The Wilko Highway is actually the flagship model of the French manufacturer, but the Wilko Getaway steals the octa-core smartphone almost completely the show. Not only is the design independent and especially appealing, but also the performance of white strong to please. For 199 Euro non-binding price without contract Wilko makes with the Getaway really something right and provides an unexpectedly good overall package of performance, processing and even multimedia qualities. However, the actual highlight of Wilko Getaway is the multi-function slot on the left side: either you use it as a second SIM card (Warning: Nano SIM!) Or MicroSD with officially up to 32 GB capacity. This is absolutely unique in the German mobile market.
Is that Wilko Getaway therefore a recommendation? Yes, it definitely is. However, if you want a little more manageable smartphone and a little more performance – especially in games – which is hardly pass still on G Moto Motorola. The smartphone of Americans is still the reference relates to what smartphones around 200 euros. But the Getaway of Wilko comes damn close zoom.
