Sony PlayStation Network suffered an attack at the hands of hackers

Sony PlayStation Network

PlayStation Network is the platform consoles Sony, a place where you can download games, share achievements with friends, download playable demos and more. This service is usually objective of attacks by hackers; in fact in 2011 there was a security breach which forced them to restore the accounts of all its users. This time the problem was not as serious, but the platform was again attacked and suffered a fall over the weekend. The attack was perpetrated by a hacker named Lizard Squad , although other attributing authorship right now, so it is not entirely clear from where the attack. What is clear is that PlayStation Network has returned to a fall in the world and, although it is now operating normally, the company was quick to issue a statement assuring that the user information is not compromised.

In Sony have already faced similar situations in the past, even more serious than this. The platform PlayStation Network has suffered a DDoS attack and has been out of service in some moments of the weekend. An attack DDoS or DoS is performed by generating a high traffic volume artificially so that the servers are saturated and falls occur. Since Sony ensures that the personal information of its 53 million users were not engaged in this time and the network has been restored and working properly. The company had scheduled a break for maintenance on Monday 25 August, but given that they have had to solve the problem by the attack they have been suspended until further notice.

As mentioned, the hacker Lizard Squad authorship for the attack through his profile Twitter. Apparently his reason is that Sony is a company with great benefits and does not spend enough on improving their service. Under the slogan “End the greed” (ending greed), have been responsible for the DDoS attack. But other hackers who claim to be behind the problem, so it is currently not possible to really know where it comes from. Furthermore PlayStation Network was not the only one affected network service Xbox Live has also been dropped in the last hours. Lizard Squad also has attacked the website of Blizzard Entertainment, the studio responsible for titles like World of Warcraft.

All this has coincided with the bomb threat that has suffered a plane he was riding a senior Sony, specifically the president of Sony Online Entertainment, John Smedley. The plane has been diverted from its route to inspect baggage on board, but found nothing suspicious. Lizard Squad would also commented about the tickets Smedley contained explosives. It may have taken advantage of the situation to try to aggravate the situation or there’s something else behind this DDoS attack. We look to provide more developments.
