Although only a few years ago tablets were rare, the variety of models on the market today is extensive and each user can find the one that best suits your needs. HP has the range ElitePad aimed at professional users and businesses that seeking the combination between a tablet and a laptop. We tested the HP ElitePad 1000, one of the most complete models offered this manufacturer. It is a tablet with 10.1 inch screen, Intel Atom processor, eight megapixel camera and Windows 8.1 Pro. ‘s HP ElitePad 1000 also comes with a couple of accessories with which we can extend your battery, connecting peripherals through its USB and launch with a cable TV image to HDMI . But do not get ahead, and then we tell you that we found the HP ElitePad 1000.
Screen
The HP ElitePad 1000 has a screen of 10.1 inches, the usual size tablets in large format. The screen resolution is 1,900 x 1,200 pixels and concentrated 222 dots per inch. Reproducing images are crisp and clear, the vivid colors and brightness is quite high, while produced many reflexes to use it outdoors and not distinguishes the content correctly.
We have an appropriate screen to a tablet like this, correct but not crisp passes. The touch response is quick, but sometimes we have noticed erratic behavior, especially when using the virtual keyboard. The panel is covered by a sheet of glass resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and carries a fingerprint-resistant cover that prevents too dirty, and succeeds quite well.
Design and management
The HP ElitePad 1000 has a pretty interesting design, both from an aesthetic point of view and from the functional point of view. Its housing is made of a single piece of aluminum, which besides being more pleasing to the eye and touch, it brings a lot of resistance. The edges are rounded so that we will not dig into your hands to hold it and can handle it with one or two hands comfortably. The tablet has a profile of less than one centimeter, but is narrower at the edges and thus is more comfortable to hold. The weight is well balanced, although it is perhaps a little high, but nothing worrisome.
At the bottom is the connector for battery charging, which incidentally is a proprietary connector, and speakers. On the right side there is a small door that opens by introducing a clip or pin in a hole, and reveals slots for SIM card and MicroSD card. If we go to the left side we find the volume buttons, which are placed in the curve between the edge and the rear, they are quite comfortable and accessible. At the top is the power button or rest the minijack for headphones and a switch to lock the rotation of the screen which is very convenient.
On the front there is a capacitive button at the bottom of the screen used to go to the start menu and lights up when pushed. Looking at the tablet front, the frame around the screen is somewhat wide, about an inch around the panel. Made to order, you could be tweaked a bit more and so get a smaller size.
Camera and Sound
The HP ElitePad 1000 has a very complete camera system for a tablet. In the rear part eight megapixel sensor , which is already fairly high resolution for a team that is not meant to take pictures, but it also carries an LED flash built and quite powerful. The camera performs very well and has a simple interface to manage. On the right side we have shooting modes that reduce to photo, video and surround panning. If you slip up from the bottom of the screen more buttons appear to switch to the front camera, activate the timer, flash and exposure control. The HP ElitePad 1000 FullHD video recording and front camera is two megapixels of resolution. A detail that we found interesting is that a small diode in the upper right corner of the screen illuminates to indicate when the camera is in use.
As mentioned, the HP ElitePad 1000 features two speakers at the bottom. The volume is quite high and allows us to watch videos or listen to music without problems, even though we are several people looking and even outdoors, where there is some noise is inevitable background. While the volume is quite high, obviously the quality is not the best, and we forget that we are talking about a tablet, and have its limitations. The sound slightly distorted at higher volumes, but differs smoothly.
Power and operating system
The HP ElitePad 1000 is pretty quick and has allowed us to work in multiple applications simultaneously without slowing down at any time. The operating system is Windows Pro 8.1 64-bit and comes with some unique applications like Reader PDF, the cloud service Box 50 Gb free and the whole package of features offered by HP.
Accessories and connectivity
One of the advantages, while inconvenient, the HP ElitePad 1000 is its accessories. The tablet comes with two accessories series: one based dock and a kind of. Holster with integrated connections and extra battery First it should be clear that this is a fully functional computer, it integrates Windows 8.1 full version of fact is the professional version. But the tablet has no physical connections beyond own charger and headphone jack. Using accessories is essential to make the most, because it is in them that we find the USB ports and other connectors.
For the dock, we have a foundation that allows us to place the tablet in an upright position, slightly inclined. On the right side carries two USB ports (one USB 3.0). In the back wearing a HDMI, a connector VGA An Ethernet and connection to the electricity network. Finally on the left takes another two USB and minijack for headphones or speakers. This database allows us to mount the HP ElitePad 1000 as if it were a computer. We can connect a keyboard, one mouse and even an external display. The downside is its weight, and we’re talking that exceeds the total weight of the tablet, so it is not exactly portable.
The other accessory is a case where we inserted the tablet and that, again, has a somewhat bulky design and unsightly. With it, the tablet is not only larger, but more is heavy. The sheath incorporates a battery and several connections at the bottom. Namely an HDMI, two USB and a slot for memory cards SD.
Autonomy and reviews
The tablet offers a fairly long range and can hold several days if used sporadically and even a full day if we give a more intensive use. ‘s case extends duration significantly and we have forgotten to pass the plug for two full days and still had charge, but is a rather awkward accessory to wear it all the time.
Overall the HP ElitePad 1000 does not disappoint. ‘s screen looks great with the exception of the reflections produced by the sun, but this is normal. Chambers were pleasantly surprised and its aluminum design. The user experience is what we can expect from Windows 8.1, but here goes a step further to be professional 64-bit version. The accessories are the most delicate part as are necessary, but its design is not exactly practical, but is designed for us to use at home, especially the dock.
