In the wide range of devices we find Cubot terminals of all types; both products equipped with the latest technology Mediatek as low cost smartphones. Today in this small article, we report the main technical characteristics of the Cubot S222 a large phablet, that despite not being a top model, the set of features with which account, along with the price, make it quite attractive.
Materials and Ergonomics
Cubot S222 phablet is based on the Mediatek processor, Quad Core and, in particular, has the MT6582A operating at a speed of 1.33 GHz, well accompanied by 1GB of RAM. We also have a good amount of internal memory that can be expanded with a microSD card up to 32 GB, so in this sense we will not have any problems. The screen is 5.5 inch HD, to be discussed below in more detail.
As yeunderstand, ergonomics is not the best, for a device with such dimensions is only suitable for people who value having a large screen. Cubot S222 is built with excellent materials, where we find very good quality plastic in most parts of the device.
Screen
The strength of Cubot S222 is undoubtedly the screen. It has a diagonal of 5.5 inches and a resolution HD, which allows us to view any content without any problem and without loss of quality.
The capacitive buttons are off the screen, ie just below, which allows us to have the screen completely available. While a large screen is perfect for, say consume multimedia content, the lack of optimizations to adjust the user interface in order to use the phone with one hand (like the Galaxy Note) is the negatives.
As for the color gamut as in any IPS panel are well reproduced, the blacks are good enough and the brightness not defraud.
Battery, Audio and Connectivity
The Mediatek processors do not consume much power, but it is also true that all available, the Quad Core Mediatek is the least optimized in this regard. The 2350 mAh therefore could become rather scarce for at least a day we load without the need to upload it to the middle of the day. With normal use should not have too many problems, but it is obvious that the screen is one of the factors that affect consumption and therefore more we play against and see multimedia content, the faster the load end.
On the audio side, both hands-free and with headphones have a quality on par with other products of the company. Not on sale in this regard, but as the Cubot S208 is decent. Same for connectivity where we are with the typical Wifi, Bluetooth and GPS with A-GPS.
Obviously Cubot S222 is a classic Dual SIM device that allows us to manage two phone numbers to Mediatek style. We will have the ability to exchange data from one SIM to another and set a default number for the 3G connection, and other features available.
Software
Cubot S222 is based on the software version of Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and uses a version almost stock but with some pre-installed applications. Therefore, we have virtually no customization except the module that manages the two SIM, a file manager and a couple of pre-installed applications.
In practice it is pure Android, which allows us to enjoy all the features of Google’s operating system without special optimizations.
Camera and Multimedia
As for the cameras, we have a back that is 13 megapixels with LED flash and autofocus that can record video in 1080p. To the front of the device we have, selfies suitable for video calls and 8 megapixel sensors.
A large display benefits the user experience in terms of media consumption, or games, although limited because the processor cannot play certainly boundless recent games like Modern Combat 5 All this would change if we had for example Mediatek Octa Core accompanied by 2GB of RAM.
Conclusion
Cubot S222 phablet is noted for having a good hardware considering it is priced at just 107 euros. In addition, as in almost all products Cubot, S222 has good materials.
