New data on Spiral 2 - modular phone Google

New data on Spiral 2 - modular phone Google

Google is developing long your idea of modular telephone on Ara project, which was initiated by Motorola before the purchase by Lenovo. The idea is to create a phone parts, we can select our taste to create the phone that suits our needs. The Mountain View want to bring the concept to hardware customization, but also to choose which camera or what our mobile processor will also be able to change any part easily if it breaks or simply want to improve any of the components. What began as an abstract idea is beginning to take shape and Google is already preparing the launch of the first prototype under the Ara project. His name is Spiral 2 and the company has offered few details about the terminal.

Google plans to expand the variety of modules throughout the year, so that they can create more combinations. By now, we know what will be some of the specifications of the Spiral 2, but logically change when more modules available, since they may choose new components. The device can operate with a Marvell or an Nvidia Tegra K1 processor and will feature a HD resolution screen (1280 x 720 pixels), although not specify its size, but it carries proximity sensor and ambient light sensor to adjust the brightness. The terminal will also come with a rear 5 megapixel camera, but no confirmation that take front camera though this piece might depend directly on the screen. The chassis also includes a module for the MicroUSB connection, a speaker and of course a battery, from that moment no capability or autonomy known. The connections of the Spiral 2 shall 3G, WiFi and Bluetooth.

Currently, Google is testing a total of eleven modules; they hope to expand to 30 by year end. The Spiral 2 is initially launched in Puerto Rico, where it is expected for the second half of the year. The Mountain View has chosen Puerto Rico as it is a small market and unincorporated territory of the United States, which operates under FCC rules. Currently there are no clues about where the global launch will occur.

The idea of a modular phone or pieces extends the life of equipment almost indefinitely. Users can replace parts that have been damaged, without changing your phone to complete, for example if the most common fault in smartphones -the screen is broken. It also opens the possibility of improving the terminal with more advanced parts such as higher resolution cameras or faster processors. As shown in the video, the modules can be easily replaced, so you will not need to go through the service and pay a fee. Google is already preparing the Spiral 3, which will have an improved camera, battery life and 4G connectivity.
