Starbreeze unveils StarVR - QHD headset with ultra-wide field of view

The Swedish software company that has made The Darkness, Syndicate and even before The Chronicles of Riddick, E3 has introduced a new solution called Virtual Reality StarVR.

After the acquisition of the French company InfinitEye, Starbreeze has launched a new project known as virtual reality StarVR. The new helmet will characterize for a wide field of view of up to 210 degrees, and then significantly higher than that of the versions of devkit Oculus Rift, which is slightly more than 100 degrees.

The two 5.5-inch panels offer a total resolution of 5120×1440. It is important specifications that should allow us to overcome the shortcomings of virtual reality as historical pixellizzazione and screen door effect. StarVR E3 is presented along with the video game Overkill dedicated to The Walking Dead, whose release is scheduled for 2016.

“Already in 2012, when consumers have regained confidence in virtual reality, we were working on the concept behind StarVR. But at that time we thought of not being sufficiently prepared at the level of immersion of the player. Now things have improved significantly,” said Lionel Anton, CEO of InfinitEye.

The project of the French company was formerly known as the InfinitEye HMD. The helmet will work with graphics technology Valhalla Engine that Starbreeze has acquired in recent months. These development tools specifically calibrated on virtual reality, and test them on other viewers already available.
