The first Kodak smartphone has made its arrival on the market today, as it is now on sale in the Netherlands. It has however a modest configuration for its price.
Known and recognized company in the field of photography, Kodak opened since January a new chapter in its history. With IM5, formalized at CES in Las Vegas, the US firm has indeed become manufacturer of smartphones, thus taking the risk of embarking on an already highly competitive market.
The Kodak IM5 was supposed to arrive on the shelves in March, but the manufacturer seems to have had a little setback since its release took place today. At first it should be available in Europe. Moreover, to date, only Dutch consumers can buy it at 280 euros. Note that they also have the opportunity to get cheaply thanks to subsidies offered by the three operators who market such as GSMArena note.
Unfortunately, the characteristics of this Kodak IM5 do not seem to match its price. The brand visibly counting on its reputation in the field of photography to justify this high price, which was the basis provided for 229 euros.
Let us recall that this smartphone has a 5-inch HD screen under which is hidden a MediaTek MT6592 octa-core processor clocked at 1.7 GHz, accompanied by 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory. A rather just configuration, even if it is possible to expand the memory up to 32GB through its microSD port.
Photo hand, the legacy of the Kodak brand seems difficult to distinguish since embeds a fairly standard equipment: 13-megapixel rear camera (with LED flash, autofocus and video capture) and 5 megapixels in the front. Two sensors still accompanied by house applications related to the photo. But again nothing revolutionary.
All this runs on Android 4.4 KitKat (an update to Android 5.0 Lollipop is possible but still uncertain) and enjoys autonomy ensured by a battery of 2100 mAh.
