 Design and management

The Panasonic Lumix GX7 has a compact body made of magnesium alloy, a very durable material that keeps the weight off. Weight is 402 grams without the target, which in this case is 20 mm f / 1.7, so too does not increase the total weight. It has a handle on the right side, nonslip rubber for better grip. It is not very prominent, but is sized so that the grip is comfortable and safe. As mentioned, Panasonic has maintained a retro style design reminiscent of old cameras reel. The model in black and silver is the most highlights the aesthetic, while the black model is more discreet.

The camera is comfortable to hold and controls are well distributed so that we can access them easily. In the top right we find the mode dial, which is integrated switch goes on. The shutter button is surrounded by another dial, used to move through menus and adjust the aperture when using manual mode. Another dial placed in the right corner, just below the power button is responsible for adjusting the speed and also serves to advance the menus. In the upper left is the folding viewfinder and the hot shoe, which is covered with a protective piece. He also wears a pop-up flash, which can be opened with the plug on the back. If we go to the back of the chassis, we have a dial to switch between manual and automatic, in addition to lock focus on a subject approach. To the right of the screen are more buttons, including a directional crosshead. The screen is touch, but appreciated that sufficient controls so that users who so wish can do without it.

Physical connections are located on the side, protected by a cover which by the way is awkward to open and forcing us to move the screen. The lid of the battery and the memory card is located on the bottom.

 Screen and viewfinder

The Panasonic Lumix GX7 has touch screen and electronic viewfinder, both folding. The articulated screens are quite common, but the detail of the hinged visor to 90ยบ attention. The combination of both pieces allows us to shoot in almost any position.

The display offers very good image quality. It is bright; the colors are true and provide the necessary information without interfering in the frame. However, it is a bit small and the 16: 9 formats makes it awkward when both took a while to work through it. Bring a proximity sensor that automatically connects when approaching the camera to the face. It has 2,764,800 pixel resolution and diopter control.

The screen is also hinged by a hinge that allows us to tilt on the vertical axis in order to find the best angle to shoot at a different height, or to avoid reflections of the sun although it is noteworthy that provides very good results outdoors and rarely have had to tilt the screen or use the viewfinder. It measures 3 inches diagonally and has 1,040,000 pixels, a fairly large size to see the content clearly. It has capacitive touch technology and allows us to navigate through menus and adjust parameters such as focus area.

 Focus and Shoot

Small but Powerful . The Panasonic Lumix GX7 has a focusing system contrast very fast and accurate, with a monitoring function very effectively objects. It has a normal tracking mode and other special objects to lock the focus on a moving subject or object, handy when recording movies.

The focusing system based measurement in 23 areas, which can be selected via the touch screen. Light Speed The system lets us work smoothly, reaching a speed burst shooting 5 frames per second if we work with mechanical shutter (high resolution). If you activate the electronic shutter mode can shoot bursts of 40 frames per second. Speaking of shutter, the Panasonic Lumix GX7 allows Bulb shooting position with a maximum exposure of 1/8000 seconds and two minutes at least. It also includes an optical stabilizer in the camera body itself, a detail that does not make us dependent on the lens you are using. The system achieves more videos smoothed movements and we can shoot without a tripod at low speeds. It also allows us to adjust the quality and aspect ratio of the image, choose 4: 3, 16: 9 and 1: 1

Returning to the approach, we highlight the performance in low light and so helpful when using manual focus. As mentioned, there is a rear dial to switch to manual focus. When we begin to move the lens ring, the display automatically shows a box with the enlarged image, to make a finer adjustment in the area you want to focus.

 Image Quality

The Panasonic Lumix GX7 has a Live MOS sensor 16 effective megapixels, accompanied by an engine Venus Engine and choice of recording videos in FullHD quality. It includes a system of flicker reduction and noise reduction filter that works quite well. You can work up to 25,600 ISO, but at higher sensitivities the noise is inevitable although it works pretty well up to 6400 ISO.

The results provided by the sensor are excellent. Faithful colors, good dynamic range and highly detailed. The videos are level and also records stereo sound. At this point we must highlight the target 20 mm, with a brightness of f / 1.7 that offers sharp and can work with depth of field, creating very interesting defocus (bokeh).
