HTC Re Camera - review

HTC Re Camera - review

HTC surprised us a couple of months ago when it introduced the HTC Re Camera, his first action camera with a curious form of periscope. The device features a 16 megapixel lens, aperture of f / 2.8, 146 degree angles and ability to record video in 1080p at 30fps. This gadget is specially designed for people who play sports or those who want to give a point of originality to your photos.

The computer comes with eight gigabytes card, but accepts microSD up to 128 gigabytes, which allow you to store your photos and videos. 820 milliamp batteries allows you to record one hour and 40 minutes, approximately, and is perfect for transporting, and weighs only 65.5 grams. Moreover, it is waterproof, dustproof, and it has the IP57 certification.

The HTC Re Camera has a number of additional accessories that are not included in the initial package, so you can record or take pictures while you ride or to make snapshots without using your hands.

The device can now purchase from their official website for a price of 170 euros. In short, if you want to treat someone a curious gadget while useful this Christmas, this is your team. Then we will analyze in depth the terminal.

Design

One of the points where this camera stands out is its design. Its shape makes periscope hold is most comfortable. Moreover, although it can be a bit slippery in the hand, remains perfectly on a flat surface, facilitating its use when we want to take pictures at a distance. The device has a couple of buttons on the front, which serve to reset the terminal, as well as to inform us that you are recording or taking pictures. There is another slightly smaller switch for activating the front LED. As you can see, the Taiwanese company has risked much in design. And, you know what they say: who dares wins.

Anyway, we can assure that it is compact enough so we will not bother pocket though, we must recognize that its circular shape may protrude if you are of those who levan tight pants. In any case, it is not particularly large. The team has dimensions of 96.6 x 26.6 mm and weighs 65.5 grams, making it fairly light. The team has IP57 certification, which means that it is waterproof up to a meter deep and with a maximum of 30 minutes.

Its handling can be done perfectly with one hand. It is also quite discreet, so no need to worry if you do not want to attract attention. The shutter button is on the back of the terminal, so you can take pictures with your thumb. If you press it once can take a snapshot while if you keep a couple of seconds your finger on the switch you will start to record video. It’s that easy.

 Camera and Connectivity

As we mentioned at the beginning, your camera is 16 megapixels, normal in action cameras and high-end smartphones. Its sensor is 1 / 2.3 inch, to give you an idea, the results are similar to what you do with the main chamber of a top-end phone. Its aperture is f2.8 and has covered a wide angle of 146 degrees. Moreover, you can also record video at 1080 pixels or 720 pixels.

One of the points I liked most is that to make selfies a great result is obtained, as it not only covers the face of the users, but also much of the context in which they occur. As you can see in the pictures that we showed, photographs take on a new dimension giving it a more original and fun point. Yes it is true that night warns some noise, but in bright environments the picture quality is good.

To synchronize your camera with your mobile will first need to download the app on your device HTC Re Camera. This app is available for both Android operating system for phones and tablets from Google, and will soon be available for iOS, Apple. The terminals are synchronized via Bluetooth or WiFi and have to say that the application is fairly simple to use. And with it, you will see everything in front of the HTC Re Camera on the screen of your phone. Thus, it is much easier to focus the pictures or videos, and you see perfectly the frame.

Having made the snapshots, just press the icon with a list that will appear in the configuration menu of that application to share, delete or save the photos. In case you opt for the second option, will offer the possibility to select all items shown or only those you consider. In addition, these files are sorted based on the date they were applied. In this way, you can store them in cloud services like Dropbox or Google Drive, or your own memory of your phone. To load the team will have at your disposal a microUSB slot, which you can also transfer files.

 Memory and accessories

Although it comes with a microSD eight gigabytes, we say that supports cards up to 128 gigabytes, more than considerable amount to save all the videos and photos you want.

The team will be incorporated several accessories that are not included in the original pack. For example, you can attach it to a bicycle and go by a video without fear that the team is dropping. Likewise, you’ll have a caliper bracket for pictures easily without using your hands. Likewise, it has a car adapter that allows you to conserve power during travel. Even HTC has confirmed that in the future may be used to broadcast live on YouTube.

 Autonomy, availability and reviews

The HTC Re Camera has a range of 820 milliamps equivalent, by brand, an hour and 40 minutes recording video or photos do 1,200. Anyway, we have to say that keeping the WiFi on continuously reduces the battery life. The device is available in Spain from late November and is available for 170 euros.

This camera is a great device for photos quickly and discreet, you can be the great point of difference with similar devices. It is very comfortable to use and the quality of snapshots and videos is quite acceptable. However, some people consider it a bit expensive for the type of gadget is and for half price with these devices.
