Panasonic Lumix DMC-GM5, micro four thirds cameras with electronic viewfinder

Panasonic Lumix DMC-GM5

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GM5 is a new digital camera micro four thirds, the second of the GM series. Despite its small size, incorporates an electronic viewfinder with a resolution of 1,166,000 dots and covering 100 percent field of view. It also has a screen TFT-LCD monitor with a 3-inch diagonal and a resolution of 921,000 dots. The screen touch and this unit are fixed to the panel; that reduces glare and improves visibility, especially in bright sunlight. The user can simultaneously use the screen and viewfinder to make more intuitive shooting, AF through the Touch Pad function. The chassis of this machine ultra-compact is made of a magnesium alloy, which combines lightness and strength. The three dials are made from aluminum and are easy to grip, even being so small.

The image sensor is a CMOS micro four thirds (17.3 by 13 mm), capable of capturing 16 effective megapixels with primary color filter. The processor is a Venus Engine, which features an advanced noise reduction system, quite effective even in low light. In fact, the sensitivity is ISO 200-25600. The pictures can be saved in JPEG (standard and high quality) or RAW. The optical sensor that activates the autofocus starts as soon as the user looks through the viewfinder; so the camera is ready to shoot. The approach is contrast detection. You can recognize faces, follow a subject.

One of the virtues of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GM5 is the hot shoe, which can be placed, for example an external flash pretty tiny, but it has red-eye reduction and slow sync support. This camera has four exposure modes: Manual, Scheduled, aperture priority and shutter priority. The drives are very different, as the twenty scenes to choose from. These include one specifically for the baby faces, two specific for photographing food, and two for the sunsets. You can take continuous shots at a speed of 5.8 fps. Furthermore, you can record video Full HD at 60 frames per second (1080 / 60p) format MPEG-4 or AVCHD with stereo sound, thanks to built-in microphone. The Snap Movie function enables video recording 2.4 6 or 8 seconds to create a kind of carousel in motion.

It is equipped with wireless technologies such as Wi-Fi (802.11b / g / n), but also with NFC (Near Field Communication). Connectivity is complete with a port USB 2.0 and digital video output HDMI micro connector. The rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides autonomy for a 220 shots. It weighs 211 grams (with battery) and measures 99 by 60 and 36 millimeters. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GM5 is available in stores in the country in late October this year at a retail price of 850 euros.
