Sony Europe has just introduced two new pairs of loudspeakers hi-fi, in the best tradition of the ES family of products aimed at audiophiles. In fact, the Japanese engineers have been based on the previous model series NA ES and AR for designing these two developments. They are the Sony SS-AC3 and Sony SS-AC5. Both are finished in black color, both venues like textile grids covering the speaker cones. They are intended to meet the needs of amateur music digital today, who prefer to listen to audio formats in high resolution indoors through speakers with a good quality / price ratio.
Although they share some characteristics, they differ greatly in size. Thus, the Sony SS-AC3 is the boxes of soil, type of tower, whose height is about the metro. Instead, Sony SS-AC5 is some bookshelf models, measuring less than eight inches high. Both incorporate the system I-ARRAY that Sony has developed for its tweeters. It consists of a trio of tweeters, wherein the main tweeter is reinforced by a pair of auxiliary tweeters. All tweeters have flexible domes. That combination gets enhancing the dispersion of the high frequencies, so that the optimum point is extended listening in the classroom.
The Sony SS-AC3 speakers are three-way floor-six diaphragms. The frequency range extends from 45 to 40,000 Hz, with a sensitivity of 86 dB. The maximum power (measured at 6 ohms) reaches 100 watts. Each incorporates two cone woofers of 130 mm with a rigid aluminum diaphragm, for a bass body. The designers have chosen to isolate in own enclosure units midrange and treble. The midrange has a pressed paper cone spiral, which smooths the mids and reduces resonances. Then there’s the trio of tweeters, formed by the main tweeter with a dome 25 mm, plus two auxiliary tweeters dome 19 mm. Each box weighs 18.5 kilos and measures 197 mm wide by 960 mm high and 295 millimeters deep.
The Sony SS-AC5 are some bookshelf speakers, so they are not surprising dimensions that allow placing on a couple of holes in the library lounge. Each weighs 7.6 kilos and measures 186 mm wide by 350 mm tall and 29.5 millimeters in depth. The frequency response is very wide; ranging from 45 to 40,000 hertz, like their peers, SS-AC3. However, since its size is more compact, are less potent; maximum power 65 stays in watts (measured at 6 ohms). The sensitivity, of course, reaches 84 decibels. They are also passive type. In terms of configuration, the Sony SS-AC5 is speakers of two tracks, with four diaphragms. For acute, include a tweeter dome with a diameter of 25 mm, complete with a pair of auxiliary tweeters with a dome 19 mm. Finally, in the rear, there is two bass ports, so not bad that the user will do some test to place them at different distances from the wall, and find out what is optimal for the performance of the low frequencies.
Sony SS-AC3 and Sony SS-AC5 are now available in some markets such as Japan. However, they arrive in Europe from autumn 2014.
