In mid-June, the company announced the launch of Airbus passenger aircraft c wide-body A330neo, characterized multimedia system with support for HD-video and movies in 3D. However, in the near future Airbus airliners can get even greater entertainment opportunities.

According to Wired, Office of Patent and Trademark United States (USPTO) has issued a new Airbus patent number 8 814 266 patent under the unpretentious title “head restraint for passenger seat on the plane,” described in detail is nothing but a virtual reality helmet that “will allow the passenger to forget that he is in flight.”

This high-tech “headrest” combines headphones and optoelectronic display or special glasses. In a published patent specification states that the device is able to provide a “sensory isolation in relation to the environment” while watching movies, listening to music or enjoying a game. The product is even able to project on a stand or a seat back in front of the virtual keyboard to interact with that will only need to wear gloves with a set of sensors to track movements. Then you can use the keyboard to input different data and control elements of the user interface.

That’s not all, in the device description can be found mention of the ventilation system of the helmet for comfort when wearing, as well as the integration of a special device, to which will be tasked with spraying and transfer of different odors. Thus, the helmet will provide not only visual but also olfactory treat.

All this sounds too good to be true – at least for the moment. Airbus said the representative resource Wired, now the company has no plans to equip its own airliners like virtual reality helmets.

One of the largest aircraft manufacturers in the world is only trying to insure and protect their ideas. However, this does not exclude the possibility of such a hat, or a number of elements described in the patent system on commercial airliners Airbus in the longer term.
