Samsung and LG will release QD TV in 2015

QD TV - Samsung and LG

South Korean companies Samsung and LG are planning next year to introduce TVs QD TV, using the technology of quantum dots. In particular, Samsung in an interview with the Korea Times has officially confirmed such plans. As stated, this TV will be able to compete with the OLED due to the lower cost.

TV on quantum dots for color reproduction and image quality can be compared with the OLED-screens. But their price can be significantly lower. It is important to note that the QD TV is a variation of the popular liquid crystal display technology, so there is no need to make huge investments in the construction of completely new production lines.

The technology of quantum dots is considered quite dangerous due to the use of cadmium, which is harmful to the environment. But Samsung conjunction with the American chemical company Dow Chemical has managed to develop a version of QD-technology without the use of cadmium. Manufacturer hopes that the new generation of TVs will help it to increase its market share.

As for the LG, it also intends to adopt the QD TV, although from OLED technology company to give in the near future is going. In creating the technology of quantum dots without cadmium LG collaborates with LG Chem and Dow Chemical. Interestingly, the first QD TV company has promised to show already at the next exhibition CES. We look forward to!
